Another Trash to Treasure.......a Project with my Dad...

I am a blessed girl....
if you have a minute, let me tell you a little of why that is.

You see, I am married to this pretty awesome guy. I have three of the sweetest {most of the time} kids this world has ever known {says the mother of said kids}
and....my dad lives with us.

I know this sounds strange to many, but for us it works. He has a small "apartment" in our basement...his own space to be his own person but when I need something during the day while my hubby is at work I can do this,

{open basement door}
"Hey Dad, can you help me with....."
and his response is always,
"sure kid."

Blessed....I am very blessed.
He likes to say we saved his life, I like to think that God just knew I would need him around. It's a peace of mind sort of thing.

Anyway....more to the point of this post.
My dad is a pretty handy fella.
He can build anything...just draw him a picture of something that is floating around in your head and I'm pretty sure he can make it happen.

This is something that we worked on together this past week...

I ran across this little beauty on the side of the road this past summer...

I went on searching on pinterest for ideas of things to turn it into, and when a friend of mine said she had some things destined for Goodwill and maybe I should have a look...I took this...

Not so cute, right? But I could see it's potential.

This is where my dad comes in....you see, I hate to admit it, but I am more than a little afraid of power tools. They scare me for all of the "what ifs" that could happen while I am using them.
One day soon...I will get over this fear. For the time being, I will just ask my husband or dad for a little help.

So...with my idea drawn onto paper...we started piecing the two together...
The first things to go were the hearts on the sides....we then used salvaged wood to create new arm rests

To attach the bench to the head board, dad cut a notch out to fit them together securely...

After that...we painted and distressed the entire piece and I decided it needed to talk about our house a little and I added "Happy Home" to the back...

I love the way it turned out. It has a happy little home in our entryway now...a place to come in and take your shoes off.
I'll treasure it.
Total cost for this project.... $0
Gained from this project......irreplaceable time spent with my dad....pretty priceless

  4. I'm cracking up because the Happy Home first read to me Happy Hour. LOL I envisioned it being a summer bench on the porch with Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade. ;) One of my favorites.
