Why am I such a chicken?

As I took down all of my fun and festive Christmas decorations this year, I realized something for the first time.....

Our living room is pretty boring.

Plain and simple, I am a chicken when it comes to color....
ask anyone who knows me and they would tell you my day to day wardrobe consists of neutrals, neutrals....and a few more neutrals....

It suits me, I'm an earthy girl....my very name, "Carmella" in a name book means God's garden.
Earthy....neutral and earthy.....

But it's due time I added a little color to our living room so when I saw that Megan from Little Blue Prints was offering help to poor souls just like me, I jumped at the chance!
The idea is....she wants to practice her interior decorating skills with someone she doesn't know....you know, to find out if she can tackle other jobs outside of her friends and family.

My mission involves:

taking lots and lots of pictures of my living room
answering questions about my personal style
and to tell her about my level of DIY skills

In return, she is going to pull together an inspiration board to  HELP ME!!

I am super excited to get started and I thought I would let you all take a tour of my living room as it is now....so that later, after she's finished guiding me into making it fabulous I could share the after pictures with you all too!

So...here we go.....

Welcome to our home.....
this is the view of our living room as you walk in the front door, the dining room is straight ahead,
come on in.....

If you will turn your attention slightly to the left, you will see a view into our living area....

And, a little more to the left, you will find our big ole' comfy chair......

And here is a look at the TV wall that I am in need of the most help with.....

Follow, follow....here is the view looking from the hallway....

And, if you come on into the dining room...this is the view of the living room from there....

Here's a look facing the hallway.....

Here is a look at the front wall with our big windows...our house faces the east so this is the best room to see the sunrise...

Our house was built in 1945 so there are a lot of great details in the craftsmanship....did you notice the cool arch ways? The walls are all plaster and the ceilings curve at the top...no straight edge at all.

Also original to the house is this beautiful light fixture...

So, there you have it...our plain, yet lovable living room
Thanks for taking a tour with me....

As I was thinking about the colors that I would like to add, I started looking around and I took this picture of Liam's bouncy seat....

I really love these colors together...I still have my beloved neutrals with the addition of that beautiful blue
So, I went where I always go for inspiration these days....

Pinterest....

These are a few things I found that had this same color pallet....

So...it's official...it's time for a change!
And I am so excited!

Stay tuned.......

  2. I'm a color addict! My house has a different color in every room. With your gorgeous floors and diving archways, you're house is begging you for a little color! Hehe. You're going to LOVE it! My living room is Sherwin Williams "Green River", and I love love love it! It's on the teal side of turquoise. Before that it was SW Ryegrass (green). Anyway, whatever you choose, don't be shy about it. Just get you some good accent pillows or wall art that you adore and find a color in there that you love to draw out. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  6. I love this space, the arches and all the wood work in there plus the fireplace. Color would add that little bit of pop. I am excited to see what she comes up with. Once you use color it is hard to go back
